CAMHS Mentor (Volunteer CAMHS Mentor)
SLaM offers a diverse range of specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for children, young people, and their families.
Our mentors are matched one-to-one with a CAMHS user (mentee) for 9 months to provide consistent support tailored to each young person. You will work with your mentee, their family, CAMHS clinicians and the CAMHS Mentor Volunteer Coordinator to establish and work towards a series of personalised goals.
Mentoring allows CAMHS users to gain confidence and independence, access community activities and build up relationships with another young person (aged 18-25 years). A mentor is someone the CAMHS user can have fun with, try new things with, and talk to informally about anything they've got going on.
Goals and activities in mentoring are very individual to each CAMHS user. Mentors should be prepared to support and accompany young people to do activities they would like to, to try new things, and to work towards their goals. This might involve a walk in the park; a visit to a café; going trampolining; joining a youth group; finding an art workshop; a study session; attending a college open day, or accompanying your mentee to help them gain confidence on public transport.
Many young people accessing CAMHS services experience varying degrees of social isolation, and lack confidence or self-esteem. Mentors can be an important source of pastoral support, act as a positive role model and be someone to have fun with!
In order to apply, you will be required to carry out a DBS, provide proof of identity and address later on in application process. We will also require two references from someone who has known you for over 6 months.
**Due to the number of applications; recruitment, including interviews and training takes place approximately every 8 weeks. **
We thank-you for your patience.
